Laura and the Cranes is a musical ensemble started by Laura Reznek (pianist/vocals) and Jordan Esau (drummer).
The music began as a side project for Jordan as he and Laura started to play in his parents’ basement. As Laura wrote somber and flowing melodies, as well as bringing her own previously written songs to the table, they realized that the sound they were creating couldn’t be kept in the basement any longer.
Michael Tarves (bass) was recruited from Jordan’s other project, gypsy-jazz-punk band, Ralf, and the trio began building a repertoire of songs and playing gigs in Vancouver’s bar scene. Along with guitarist Stuart Ansley, the group explores the sounds of melancholy, fervor, and pomp with an old-timey feeling. Bring your dancing shoes; you won’t want to miss this.
